Art Update August 2013

Time to catch you all up with what has been going on in the studio.

My focus with painting this year has been how to layer the colors- and focusing on what I leave to show through.   Flow and transparency was last year.

  • I completed 3 commissions so far.
  • Gallery shows:
    • Heart, The Gallery  Sept 2012 - Feb 2013
      • Managed Multi-Media on Facebook page Jan-Feb
    • Evergreen Association of Fine Arts (EAFA) Juried Show April-May 2013  www.eafa.org
    • Evergreen Association of Fine Arts (EAFA)"Splash" Exhibit  Sept-Oct. 2013

      • My piece "Summer Stream" was featured on the advertisement for the show and I was asked to create the advertisement using my piece for the picture since they thought it was a great representation of "Splash"! (click to view)
  • A/NT Gallery Sep. 2013  www.antgallery.com
  • I have completed 11 new pieces which I will display below.
  • I have 4 pieces in progress. Two, which I will display below.
  • The piece that I ruined and the lesson behind it.

The process...

I had fun with photo shop with this one.

'Morning Light' 3-Panel 12"x 30"

I woke up to the light shining through my window onto this painting. So I got up and painted them on..then went from there until it was finished.

'Summer Stream'- 24"x60" - Acrylic & Oil on Canvas.
This piece had sold, but when the sale didn't go through I ended up putting more time into it. I felt that I learned a lot from this piece and grew as an artist.

Wall Shot below

Both Pieces- wall shot

'Sailor's Night'  24"x60"- Acrylic & Oil on canvas.

Featured in EAFA's Juried Spring Abstract Show:

In progress shots below:

It's all about what you put on..but also..what you don't- what you leave to show through.  It's about how you build the colors.  Anyone can put paint on a canvas.  The creation process requires complete focus and attention but also freedom at the same time- I go with the flow, not against it.

In Progress...

The lesson I had to learn the hard way:
    1. Patience is a virtue.  I ruined this painting when glazing it too soon and took the entire design off.  I was depressed for a couple days over that.  Wait until the layers dry.
